August 27, 2019 – Newsweek turned to Adam Citron for his insights on the celebrities indicted in the college admissions scandal. Citron pointed out that although parents make substantial donations to colleges with the hope their children are looked upon more favorably as applicants, generally only payments that are explicitly given to secure a specific benefit – such as college admission – are considered bribes and a violation of federal law.
